Finally out of 6 children I have 3 interested in showing
dogs. Well in fairness I had another that used to show the dogs in 4H but
now is more into sports, his grades and where he wants to go to college.
So... the kids are getting back into the dogs and that makes me happy :).
Keenan is 11 years old and I think he has gotten the confidence to go in the
ring and work with the dogs. He will be practicing UKC first and then
venture into the AKC Juniors ring this fall/winter 2009. Clare is just
going to be 6 yrs. old but she is my most enthusiastic about showing the dogs
and wants to start now. She will practice, maybe do a bit in 4H and start
to show in UKC shows so in a few years when she is eligible for AKC Juniors she
is really ready. McKenna is 4.5 yrs old now and wants to start too.
She will just dabble a bit in UKC with me in the ring with her showing her the
beginnings of handling.
Fortunately for us we have several UKC shows in the area and
they start the kids as young as 2 o3 in pee wee with their parents in the ring
too. So.. 2009 looks like the year the Lane kids will be off and running
in Juniors. Now to get them a dog or two that can help them start their
journey.
